Bill’s journey began with a simple idea and an unyielding determination, taking him from the scrap business to the pinnacle of success as the founder of Sterling Machinery Exchange.

In 1954, Bill embarked on his entrepreneurial path, working tirelessly in the scrap business, often putting in long hours just to earn a modest living. It was during these early days that destiny intervened when a customer owed him money and presented him with an air compressor in exchange. Little did anyone know, this seemingly ordinary trade would ignite a spark of inspiration that would lead to the birth of a new endeavor.

Days later, as fate would have it, another customer’s interest in that very air compressor set in motion a novel concept: selling used machinery. Bill’s entrepreneurial spirit was truly awakened, and he seized this opportunity with fervor. A visit to an auction shortly thereafter unveiled a world of potential, solidifying Bill’s fate as a machinery dealer.

From that pivotal moment forward, Bill’s dedication and innovative mindset propelled Sterling Machinery Exchange to unparalleled heights. With unwavering commitment and a keen eye for business, he transformed his modest beginnings into a thriving enterprise that would go on to become a nationwide leader in the new and used machine tool industry.
